Woman Injured While Fleeing Serial Killer Gets $1.8M
A jury in Florida awarded $1.8 million to a woman who was injured while escaping an attack by a suspected serial killer in her apartment in 2009, according to court documents.
The lawsuit was filed by 54-year-old Francisca Vente against the Bay Winds apartment complex in North Miami-Dade. Vente claims a dangerous absence of security on the premises allowed killer Michael Davis to enter her apartment, where he began to choke her.
Vente broke both her wrists, her pelvis and her spine when she jumped out of a third-floor window to escape the attack.
Police shot Davis to death after the attack.
Vente, who had worked as a cleaning woman prior to the incident, is now receiving disability because she is unable to walk for extended periods of time or bend down.
